Mechanical Engineering Workshop at IUS Winter School
On Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Mechanical Engineering (ME) study program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) organized an interactive workshop as part of the IUS Winter School “Show & Tell,” welcoming prospective students interested in engineering and innovation.
The session opened with a program presentation delivered by Prof. Dr. Muhamed Hadžiabdić, ME Program Coordinator, who introduced participants to the study program and the learning environment at IUS. During the introduction, other ME faculty members also presented themselves and offered an engaging overview of what mechanical engineering looks like today - highlighting modern industry trends, emerging technologies, and a wide range of career opportunities.
Following the introductory segment, students moved to the IUS Research and Development Center (RDC) for hands-on activities led by Senior Assistants Ammar Hodža and Muhamed Bišić. Designed to reflect a real engineering process, the practical part of the workshop guided participants through a complete workflow - from concept to production and testing.
Students were introduced to basic CAD modeling in SolidWorks, learned how to prepare models for 3D printing, and explored additive manufacturing using FDM technology. They also took part in material testing, culminating in Charpy impact testing, where participants experimentally tested their own specimens - experiencing the full cycle of design, manufacturing, and experimental validation.
The workshop received very positive feedback from participants, who praised both the content and the organization of the activities, noting that the experience made mechanical engineering feel tangible, dynamic, and exciting.
