IUS Students Explore Cutting-Edge Energy Technologies During Visit to Kakanj Thermal Power Plant
On Thursday, November 30, 2023, a group of International University of Sarajevo (IUS) students, accompanied by Assistant Prof. Dr. Ismar Alagić and Adjunct Instructor Dr. Enes Kazagić, paid a visit to the Kakanj Thermal Power Plant. The power plant operates as an integral part of the renowned Elektroprivreda BiH company.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the technologies employed in energy production and distribution. Additionally, they gained valuable insights into the management and maintenance of energy facilities. The agenda included a comprehensive overview of the tasks encountered by engineers working in such dynamic environments.
Of particular interest were discussions around the essential competencies expected of young engineers and their proficiency in utilizing software support—a crucial aspect emphasized during their academic studies and laboratory tutorials at the International University of Sarajevo.
Professor Alagić underscored the visit's purpose, stating that it aims to equip students with the skills required to handle technologies adhering to the highest global standards. Simultaneously, the visit serves to familiarize them with the competitive labor market. The collaboration with prominent local companies, such as Elektroprivreda BiH, plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industrial applications. The students gained firsthand experience of the technologies involved in the production and distribution of electricity derived from fossil fuels.
IUS is committed to this progressive path, anticipating a substantial number of its students to partake in internships. This strategic approach ensures their readiness to face the challenges posed by the utilization of cutting-edge technologies prevalent in our contemporary environment.
IUS expresses gratitude to the representatives of Elektroprivreda BiH d.d. for their warm welcome and keen interest in potential future collaborations with IUS. This mutual partnership is integral to fostering a dynamic connection between academia and the industry.
