From Research to Real-World Innovation: Muhamed Bisić at Balkan Shield 2026
Muhamed Bisić, Senior Assistant at the Mechanical Engineering study program of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), took part in the First Balkan Shield – Defence Industry Expo and Summit 2026, held in Sarajevo from 1 to 4 September 2026.
The event brought together representatives of industry, science and institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, with a strong focus on advanced technologies, industrial cooperation, innovation and international partnerships.
As part of the fair, Mr. Bisić was invited to speak at the SEMANT26 conference, where he delivered a lecture titled “Application of Additive Technologies for Production of Explosive Charges for Ammunition.”
The lecture was open to visitors and exhibitors and addressed the application of advanced additive manufacturing technologies in a highly specialized engineering and industrial context. His participation as an invited speaker highlighted the relevance of his expertise in additive technologies and advanced manufacturing.
Another important highlight of the event was the presentation of the first Bosnian-Herzegovinian 3D-printed FPV drone, developed by the Center for Advanced Technologies Sarajevo. Mr. Bisić contributed to the development of the drone as an external associate of the Center.
The prototype, presented at the Center’s stand during Balkan Shield 2026, attracted significant public and media attention. According to media reports, the drone was printed as a single piece using lightweight materials and represents an important example of the practical application of additive manufacturing in the development of advanced engineering systems.
Mr. Bisić’s involvement in both the expert conference program and the development of the 3D-printed drone demonstrates the value of connecting academic expertise with applied research, innovation and industry-oriented technological development.
Balkan Shield 2026 also featured a strong international presence, including prominent Turkish defence-industry institutions and companies such as ASELSAN, MKE, the Presidency of Defence Industries of Türkiye (SSB), and BMC, alongside participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Egypt and other countries.
For IUS, Mr. Bisić’s participation represents a valuable example of how expertise developed within the University can contribute to advanced technological projects and strengthen cooperation between academia, research institutions and industry.
