At FENS IUS Engineering Education is All About Combining Theory with Practice

At the IUS Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), education emphasizes the integration of theory and practice. Numerous factors contribute to the realization that traditional methods of education, particularly in engineering, are no longer optimal. These include social media distractions, diminishing student concentration, evolving trends and technologies, and the abundance of educational resources. Recognizing this, FENS and IUS have adapted their course delivery to align with learning outcomes while accommodating changes in student cognition and emerging trends.

A prime example is the Electrical Circuits course, a staple in the curricula of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering programs. In addition to covering classical circuit theory, this course now incorporates an introductory segment on robotics. Students are introduced to programming concepts and engage in hands-on robotics assembly and programming exercises.

This innovative approach owes much to the dedicated efforts of Senior Assistant Šejla Džakmić and Adjunct Instructor Anes Hadžiomerović, supported by a team of undergraduate student demonstrators and in collaboration with CERIT – Mostar. The incorporation of robotics into the Electrical Circuits curriculum not only enhances student learning but also prepares them for the demands of modern engineering fields.
