IUS Student Damir Hanić Finds Solution to Air Pollution in Sarajevo
Damir Hanić, a student at the Mechanical Engineering (ME) study program at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), has emerged as a pioneering figure in the fight against air pollution in Sarajevo. His groundbreaking proposal to utilize drones for the eradication of smog has captured widespread attention and offers a promising solution to a longstanding environmental challenge.
The issue at hand revolves around the persistent and alarming levels of air pollution that have plagued Sarajevo for over six decades, particularly during the winter months. This pollution, primarily attributed to emissions from thermal power plants like TE Kakanj, poses severe health risks to the residents and increasesrespiratory and cardiovascular ailments.
Damir's innovative approach involves the implementation of aerosol seeding technology, a method aimed at dispersing non-toxic aerosols into the atmosphere to interact with smog particles, causing them to agglomerate and precipitate to the ground. This process effectively reduces the concentration of harmful pollutants in the air, thus improving overall air quality and mitigating associated health risks.
To execute his vision, Damir outlined several crucial steps. Collaborating with relevant institutions, he established a comprehensive testing methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of aerosol seeding in Sarajevo's urban environment. Research efforts were focused on understanding aerosol behavior and identifying suitable testing locations within the city.
With data in hand, Damir proceeded to design and create a prototype aerosol seeding module. This module, integrated with drones, serves as the vehicle for dispersing aerosols into the atmosphere. Through meticulous prototyping and testing, Damir ensured the efficiency and efficacy of the solution in combatting air pollution. The project's impact extends beyond mere environmental benefits. Improved air quality promises significant health advantages for Sarajevo's residents, reducing the prevalence of pollution-related diseases. Additionally, a cleaner environment enhances the city's attractiveness to tourists and investors, thus bolstering the local economy. Moreover, by curbing harmful emissions, the project contributes to broader environmental conservation efforts.
We applaud Damir Hanić for his ingenuity, dedication, and commitment to making a meaningful impact on the world around him. His exemplary work serves as an inspiration to us all, and we look forward to witnessing the continued success of his endeavors.
